18.cifr/2009.brailsford.healthcare-sim-litThis paper presents an analysis of the academic literature on the use of simulation and modelling in health care. Following a systematic search of electronic databases, 342 papers published between 1921 and 2006 were identified and analysed. The papers are classified by simulation method, application area, country, and software used. Results show that discrete event simulation is the dominant method and that the volume of published work has grown substantially since the 1990s.
